Children's Art Competition

All children from the greater Nelson region were invited to enter an art competition celebrating the 150th anniversary of our wonderful city and region.

The theme was ‘When Nelson became a city’. Children were invited to create an art work – any medium - and enter it through their school or church's children’s ministry.

  • All the winning art works and a selection of the other entries were on display in the Cathedral during the school holidays, 27 September to 12 October.
  • Winners were awarded their prizes of Page & Blackmore gift vouchers during the commemoration service in the Cathedral on the afternoon of September 27th.

Competition winners:

Judging was completed on Monday 1 September by His Worship the Mayor of Nelson, Kerry Marshall and Rose Shepard, artist, from Wakefield.

Congratulations to all the winners and on the high standard of art work and imagination that were shown by all entrants.  The judges and organisers very much enjoyed seeing what the children had drawn, painted and constructed.
